What Social Media is Doing to Our Children’s Morals

Researchers recently analyzed the impact social media has on young people’s character and moral development.

We have all heard complaints that young people are spending too much time online and not enough time in the “real world” – with studies showing that nearly three quarters of 12 to 15-year-olds in the UK have a social media profile and spend an average of 19 hours a week online. Continue reading

Democracy in crisis: Unshackle schools from test results

… give children the chance to form opinions

If political headlines globally are anything to go by, it seems democracy is at risk. Totalitarian views are on the rise. Far-right parties and leaders have gained voters in many countries. And decisions are being made by law courts or by technical experts from international economic organisations. And people, particularly young people, feel they do not have a say. So it’s not surprising then that governments are turning their attention to schools as a potential cure. Continue reading

When Students Melt Down Over a ‘B

Oh my God – give them the trophy! ~ Ed.

The library on campus of a small Catholic university in Illinois was largely empty. Since the administrators had replaced most of the bookshelves with plush furniture, conference tables, and chairs, it better resembled an airport terminal just before a redeye. A handful of students were staring intensely into computer screens, while another pair talked loudly – no more than 10 feet from the silent, visibly demoralized librarian – about the rap song that one of them had just played moments earlier. Not one student was near a book. There wasn’t a single newspaper or journal in sight. The university had canceled its subscriptions and removed the periodical section a few semesters earlier. Finley: Rising from the Ashes

In an essay published in The Washington Times titled “Coddling college campuses and a crippled culture,” Everett Piper accurately chronicles the current state of higher education in America. Tragically, what began on campus now has engulfed the entire society. Identity Politics, Political Correctness, Social Justice Ideology and the use of anything remotely sexual to eliminate men from both public and private life are everywhere and control most aspects of social and individual life. Living Free and Staying Free…

… is the struggle for Our Times, no different than many struggles throughout history that have seen a people either trying to acquire freedom or stave off assaults on it from the Forces of Tyranny. It is a hard struggle, a tiring struggle.

It is difficult to deny the truth of the matter and the fact that our nation continues to move closer to tyranny each day, as our people have become too weak to firmly stand for their God Given rights and more often they are far too willing to accept greater encroachments, infringement and outright violations, all in the name of “security and safety”. Considering History: The Real Crisis Facing Public Higher Education in America

Students at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, the first historically black college. (Cheyney University)

On March 22, President Trump issued an Executive Order that affects one of America’s most significant, shared spaces and communities: our institutions of higher education. Entitled “Improving Free Inquiry, Transparency, and Accountability at Colleges and Universities,” the EO threatens to remove federal funding from institutions of higher education that do not “promote free inquiry” on their campuses. Although the EO itself does not spell out the meaning of that phrase further, it has been celebrated by conservative groups such as Turning Point USA, who believe the EO to be an endorsement of their critiques of universities where far-right speakers have been either disinvited from speaking or protested when they did speak. The silent tragedy affecting today’s children

…and what to do with it

I know that many would choose not to hear what I say in the article, but your children need you to hear this message. Even if you disagree with my perspective, please, just follow the recommendations at the end of the article. Once you see the positive changes in your child’s life, you will understand why I say what I say! ~ V.P.

There is a silent tragedy developing right now, in our homes, and it concerns our most precious jewels – our children. Through my work with hundreds of children and families as an occupational therapist, I have witnessed this tragedy unfolding right in front of my eyes. Our children are in a devastating emotional state! Continue reading

Parents can help kids catch up in reading with a 10-minute daily routine

Because I conduct research about reading, parents often ask me the same question: “What can I do to help my child become a better reader?”

I always give them the same advice: “Read with your children. Enjoy books together, and whatever you do, don’t worry about teaching them to read. Leave the teaching to the teachers.” Continue reading

How The Media Is Helping Rewrite American History

Erasing History ~ Image: Lance Page

America’s history is unique. There is no other nation that has gone from a monarchy to self-rule and then in a very short period of time became a world leader and then the most prosperous and powerful nation the world had ever seen. The saddest part is our places of so-called education refuse to teach this phenomenon to our kids. Continue reading

Schools: A Beacon of Hate

One of the basic conditions for the victory of socialism is the arming of the workers and the disarming of the bourgeoisie (the middle class). A system of licensing and registration is the perfect device to deny gun ownership to the bourgeoisie. ~ Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

Let me first say that my prayers and thoughts for healing are sent to all families who have lost family members due to a horrific killing. Losing a family member unexpectedly is something we should never have to experience. It is a sad time in America.

Hate speech, racism, anger, are all emotional traits that must be learned. Yes that is right, Hate is an emotion that must be LEARNED. You have to be taught to hate. Did you ever meet a baby right out of the womb who said I am a racist? Were their first words, “I hate Jews, Christians, Blacks, Muslims, conservatives, environmentalists, etc.” I don’t think so. Why is picking up a gun or knife and killing people done by some almost without thought? Because somewhere in their lives, they were taught to hate. Now they are acting out what they have been taught. Mental illness for the most part has nothing to do with their actions. It is their programming. The biggest question is where is the programming coming from? Continue reading

Do-Whacka-do!

It certainly did the job back in our day – and I didn’t grow up to be a mass murderer. As I stated on Facebook…

Eldon Carper never needed permission to swat our butts back in the day when we got out of line. Hell – I wear it as a badge of honor nearly 60 years later. OH – did I mention – I had made that paddle in Homer Kirchhoff’s shop at Northbrook Junior High School – where Carper was the principle. STOP pussifying this generation.

BREAKING: College Board Drops Plans for SAT Student Adversity Scores

The College Board is abandoning its plan to assign an adversity score to every student who takes the SAT, after facing criticism from educators and parents.

Instead, it will try to capture a student’s social and economic background in a broad array of data points. The new tactic is called Landscape and doesn’t combine the metrics into a single score. (MORE to follow…)

New York Times ‘1619 Project’ Is Revisionist History

The Times says that slaves arriving in 1619 is the date of our “true founding,” not 1776.

These days it’s hard to find any mention of Donald Trump and Russia in The New York Times. Of course, after the train wreck of Robert Mueller’s testimony, it’s no wonder they dropped that hot potato. But don’t underestimate the leftist zealots at the Times, nor their creativity in trying to ensure that a “racist” Trump doesn’t win a second term. Continue reading

Sucked In By Technology – Brainwashed By Education

“The great masses of the people will more easily fall victims to a big lie than to a small one.” ~ Adolf Hitler

People keep asking, especially those over 70, what the Hell happened to my country? How is it that America spawned the likes of Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Kamala Harris and some gay mayor from Indiana named “Boodugig,” or whatever, running for president? How did the idiot Bill de Blasio, ever become mayor of New York? Continue reading

What is a Book?

What is a Book? It is a special kind of body made to be inhabited by a curious kind of frozen but fusible soul, a body fit to mediate its own peculiar life…

It is our tradition that the first lecture of the year should be dedicated to our freshmen.* They have newly joined a community whose program of learning centers on the scheduled reading of a preset list of books and on the twice-weekly discussion that takes place in the seminar. They have come to us chiefly because that is what we do here. I have read each of their applications, and I can vouch for the fact. Continue reading

Texas gov’t officials seize 4-year-old homeschooler after parents ask doctor for second opinion

In a heartbreaking case of complete disregard for parental rights, four-year-old Drake Pardo was illegally taken from his parents by Child Protective Services (CPS) and uniformed police officers on June 20, 2019 in East Texas.

After almost two months, multiple court appearances, and the admission of CPS in court that they had not met all of the necessary requirements for removing Drake, the Pardos are tragically still separated from their young son over a claim of “medical negligence.”

Texas Sen. Bob Hall of the state’s second district called the case an “egregious miscarriage of justice.” (Continue to full story…)

Addiction expert claims giving your child a smartphone is like giving them a gram of cocaine

The world is changing at a dramatic pace. It’s shifting so fast, in fact, that the childhood you remember is vastly different than the one your own kids will experience. This is largely due to the development and saturation of technology in modern society.

While there are perks to being hyper-connected, allowing children access to their own smartphone could produce detrimental effects long-term. Continue reading

What Student Loans and Health Care Have in Common

What is the governing dynamic causing both student loans and healthcare burdens to run away from us?

As a health economist, I spend my days working with incredibly innovative medical device and biotechnology companies who are commercializing into the healthcare space. By consequence, I’m obligated and prone to think about the financial and economic troubles facing the field of medicine. For seven years I worked for an integrated delivery network and had a seat on both the payer and hospital side of the table and was thereby privy to how all the sausage was made. During those same years, I was laden with a student loan burden that I’d heaped on myself during college and two master’s programs. The consequence of which was 1) a fantastic education in neuroscience, bioimaging, and business and 2) a four-figure monthly payment to student loan servicers that, but for the grace of God, almost torpedoed my wife and me monthly. Why Milton Friedman Saw School Choice as a First Step, Not a Final One

…let’s celebrate Milton Friedman’s vision of enabling parents, not government, to be in control of a child’s education.

Libertarians and others are often torn about school choice. They may wish to see the government schooling monopoly weakened, but they may resist supporting choice mechanisms, like vouchers and education savings accounts, because they don’t go far enough. Indeed, most current choice programs continue to rely on taxpayer funding of education and don’t address the underlying compulsory nature of elementary and secondary schooling. Continue reading
