I commented this morning with my views on reading and advertising. I thought about this all day. Since the analogue relates to programming, I want to add this bit of wisdom from years in the IT/IS industry.
Garbage in… Garbage out…
If you upload junk the system will return junk. A computer is a machine that takes instruction from the program. It does what is told (programmed) to do. Input junk and your return will be junk. Fill your brain with junk and the expected return will be more junk. The expression that you can’t make a silk purse from a sow’s ear applies here. No matter how you dress it up, it is still junk.
Warning: Excercise extreme care when uploading software.
I’m only partially kidding.
Consider the damage advertising does to our brains and to our lives by telling us that we need to conform to a contrived and carefully crafted image that preaches conformity as the path to be happy, or to be complete, or to be attractive. We spend billions of dollars chasing this illusion of perfection never to reach this goal. Faulty programming, that.
Programming our brains to achieve happiness but it is possible through careful attention to the messages being uploaded. The rewards are far-reaching and the benefits are a better sense of self and a realistic image. The advertisers and those who want to control us know this. THey study this. They have perfected this.
Reading is fundamental! Just be careful that of what you upload.
