Prozac-Discovered by Eli Lilly in 1972 and entered into use in 1986, I believe. Listed by the World Health Organization as an ‘Essential’ Medicine for its treatment of a wide range of disorders. The 31st most prescribed drug in the United States.
Now wonder the people can’t think these days; we’ve become a nation of doped up junkies.
Let me tell you a story. When my son was in Elementary School his principle sent him home with a note saying that she needed to have a talk with us.
We went to the school thinking our son had done something stupid. Instead, she said that he was behaving badly in class; not paying attention and focusing on his schoolwork. She hinted that he may have ADD/ADHD, and told us that we ‘HAD’ to take him to a psychiatrist before he would be allowed to return to class. She gave us a list of local shrinks to choose from.
We took our son to see one of them and while we were talking with the guy my son was gazing around the room. Then the shrink asked our son a few questions; mostly like what did your dad just say, or what was the subject of our last few sentences. Our son answered perfectly.
The shrink then asked our son if he would mind waiting outside the office for a few minutes so he could talk to ‘mommy and daddy’ privately.
He told us flat out that there wasn’t a damned thing wrong with our son, and that he was not going to pump him full of Prozac to get him to sit still in class. He said the problem is not our son, it is the school system; it has been designed to handle average, and below average IQ’s and our son is bored because his mind was not being challenged.
He gave us a note to give to the principle, and when she read it she got this big scowl on her face. But she had to let our son return, we had complied with her demand, and the shrink had said the problem was the school systems, not ours.
