Harvard, Ill., May 7 – (Special) – Samuel Cole, who served in the 95th Illinois Infantry in the Civil war, and who was a past commander of the local post of the G.A.R., dies here Thursday following a lingering illness.
He was born in New York state 83 years ago but had resided in Harvard since he was two years old.
He is survived by three sons, Edwin Ray Cole of Glencoe, Francis William Cole of Rockford and David Samuel Cole of Harvard.
The funeral will be held Sunday, afternoon at 2, p.m.
Editor’s Note: Samuel William Cole was the Editor’s great-great-grandfather. I never met nor knew my great-grandfather, Edwin Ray nor great-uncle Frank (Francis). However, while growing up, I knew well my great-uncle David Samuel Cole (a renowned educator from Elgin, Illinois) and his wife, Edith (who with her own twisted sense of humor, had a coal black Cocker Spaniel named, Tarbaby).
